The Joys
Huge fun here - one of my favorite cars ever due to a few features - looked great with the deep-dish wheels, engine was in great shape, and a heated steering wheel which made a huge positive difference. That hood damage looks nasty, but was easily covered up by a 50$ hood bra. Headlights responded well to polishing, and removing the blacked out coatings. This car truly shines on the highway, fantastic fun, torque and control at highway speeds. This is the first car that made me think I should find something slower that's still fun to drive to avoid legal entanglements.
The Struggles
Some form of leak was present on the rear drivers side. No idea why it didn't lead to mold and smells, but it did make the seatbelt wet when it rained.
This car was run and drive, and had zero oil. This car showed a great strategy of calling the previous owner and asking if they had any parts laying around. Unprompted, they told me what happened to the hood. Apparently they were at a stop light and a school bus backed into the car and all the oil drained out. I guess that is possible. What it definitely had was a ruined hood and no parts ruined underneath. The car also had a very common oil pump bracket gasket failure. This is not a difficult or expensive repair, the gasket literally cost $15. It was very time consuming though. But once fixed there were zero leaks.
Final Outcome
Sold on peddle for $315 cash. They picked it in the carmax parking lot. Carmax offered $200.
The Experience
The closest I've made it to a profitable flip. That was never the goal, but it was a fun experience.
