The Joys
220k miles on apparently the original transmission which would not shift into drive. Simply drained the fluid and replaced it with new fluid and zero problems after that.
Made a whirring noise when accelerating, replaced the fan clutch and that went away.
The Struggles
It arrived with a jammed convertible top assembly. Full disassembly was required to find that the previous owner had secured the folding mechanical structure with a bent metal pin. Wasted weeks attempting to diagnose the issue, work around a broken manual lowering gear, but finally had to destroy the top to get it folded. This was the only way as the bent pin was a strategy from the previous owner to preserve the drivability of the car.
Gauge cluster did not function, bought a new one and had it reprogrammed to the correct mileage for the vehicle.
Final Outcome
Sold to cash-for-cars type operation for approximately $800. Unfortunately I can't seem to find the receipt for this sale.
The Experience
This car was an absolute delight to drive. Smooth and stable and quick enough at the 40-70mpg range. Very comfortable seats, excellent steering feel, great visibility. On a 20 year old car with 220k+ miles.
